Dementia has been described as one of the biggest global health and social care challenges of the 21st Century. Nevertheless, the Prime Minister has stated that by 2020 he wants England to be the best country in the world for dementia care and support and for people with dementia, carers and families to live.
In order to respond to this large and complex challenge, we must work together to address workforce development needs across health and social care, across physical and mental health and across geographic boundaries. In the East of England we are doing that through a network of Dementia Alliances that has been established by Heath Education East of England to ensure maximum shared learning. These are Norfolk & Suffolk, Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire, Cambridge & Peterborough and Essex.
